2 votes U-Haul September 26, 2009 Uhaul customer service in Provo, UT is horrible. Here's what happened:

I was moving up to Salt Lake City and needed a moving truck. I went online to set up a reservation and was called back by their national scheduling department right away. They said I could pick up the truck on the day of the move in the morning. I though, "Wow, that was great customer service!"

Unfortunately, a few minutes later, the Provo location called us and said he did not have any trucks with the length we specified available. When we told him that the national location had just called us and said he did, he said they didn't know what they were talking about.

We called the national location back and they assured us that he had a 17' truck available because they could see his inventory. They said they would call him and then call us back.

A few minutes later, we got a call back from the guy at the Provo store. He sounded like he had just gotten yelled at and was really embarrassed. Instead of coming out and saying he lied to us, he said, "Well, I guess I do have a 17' truck available."

When we got there the morning of our move to pick up the truck, first of all we stood in line for 30 minutes while he attended to other customers. He was running a drive though snack shack, a gas station, an automotive repair shop, and who knows what else all from the same location. Unfortunately, all of those customers had higher priority than us, even if they got there after. A few times we actually made it up to the counter and he ran away to help someone else who had just arrived.

Needless to say, I was pretty pissed off when I was finally attended to. He took forever to get us all the documents we needed and then as he was handing me the keys he said, "Now, somebody else needs this truck real bad too so you've got to have it back by 12:00." I was so mad I could have spit nails. I told him that we had reserved the truck until 4:00 and that I'd have it back sometime before then.

It was obvious that this guy was just trying to turn the truck over to more customers and was double booking his trucks. That's why there was the confusion of whether he had the truck or not, because he was double booking them under the counter.

Seriously, I don't know where Uhaul finds these guys! It seems like every location I have been to is some junkyard out in the middle of nowhere. Don't they have any prerequisites to become a Uhaul location?
